Dr. Kelly Powers, a respected surgeon and medical commentator who frequently appeared on Red Eye and Fox Business, has died after a long battle with an aggressive form of brain cancer. She was 45.

Powers passed away Sunday in New Jersey following a years-long struggle with Glioblastoma, a rare and often fatal brain tumor. According to an obituary published by Holmdel Funeral Home, visitation services are scheduled for Thursday. In recent years, she lived with her family in Colts Neck.

Born on May 13, 1979, in Yonkers, Powers pursued higher education at Baruch College before enrolling at New York College of Podiatric Medicine. She later earned a master’s degree in science from University of San Francisco and completed residency training through programs affiliated with Georgetown University and Boston University. In addition to her clinical work, Powers became a recognizable media voice, offering medical analysis across several major networks including Fox News, CNN, NBC, and CBS. Her health challenges first drew public attention in 2020 when she revealed she had been diagnosed with glioblastoma. She initially underwent surgery to remove a tumor and appeared to recover. However, the cancer returned several years later, according to friend and colleague Cheryl Casone. Earlier in her medical journey, Powers experienced heart failure while appearing live on Fox Business to discuss women’s heart health—an event she later described as both shocking and ironic. Despite numerous setbacks, including multiple surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation treatments, she continued advocating for patient awareness while balancing family life. Friends later helped raise nearly $100,000 for experimental treatment after her cancer returned in 2024. Powers is survived by her husband, Steven Doll, and their son, Bennett. Funeral services are scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at Tower Hill Church.
