Stockton Birthday Party Shooting: Tragedy Leaves Four Dead, Community in Mourning

A mass shooting at a child’s birthday celebration near Stockton, California, turned a joyful gathering into a devastating tragedy on November 29, 2025. Gunfire erupted during a party for a 2-year-old girl at the Monkey Space event hall on Lucile Avenue in unincorporated San Joaquin County. Four people were killed, including three children, and 13 others were injured. As of March 2026, authorities have not made any arrests, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Approximately 80 to 100 guests attended the celebration, which was scheduled from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Witnesses reported that just before the birthday cake was to be served around 6 p.m., multiple gunshots rang out. Some initially believed the sounds were fireworks before panic quickly spread throughout the venue. Guests scrambled for safety as parents shielded their children and others rushed to assist the wounded.

Investigators later recovered more than 50 shell casings from at least five firearms, suggesting that multiple shooters were involved. Authorities believe the attack may have been targeted, though the exact motive has not yet been confirmed.

The victims included three children—8-year-olds Maya Lupian and Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, and 14-year-old Amari Peterson—as well as 21-year-old Susano Archuleta. Thirteen additional victims were treated for injuries, and all had been released from hospitals by mid-December 2025.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation in coordination with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. Officials announced a reward of $130,000 for information leading to arrests. In January 2026, investigators released surveillance images of two vehicles believed to be connected to the incident.

The shooting has deeply shaken the Stockton community. Memorials have appeared near the venue, and local leaders continue to urge anyone with information to come forward as families seek justice and healing.
