California Veteran Behind “Trump House” Remains Critical After Assault Outside Home

Kerry Sheron, a 69-year-old Southern California Army veteran known locally for his heavily decorated “Trump House,” remains in critical condition following a violent assault outside his home. His family says they fear he may not survive the injuries he suffered during the attack.

Authorities responded Wednesday to reports of an assault near East Mission Avenue and Buchanan Street, close to Sheron’s residence. When officers arrived, they found Sheron suffering from severe injuries. A utility worker who witnessed the incident reportedly intervened and helped restrain the suspect until police arrived.

Sheron was transported to a trauma center, where he was placed in intensive care. His wife, Maria Garcia, told reporters that doctors have given the family a very difficult outlook regarding his recovery.

Garcia has suggested that the attack may have been connected to the political messages displayed at their home. The property, widely recognized in the San Diego area as the “Trump House,” features American flags, patriotic decorations, and signs expressing support for former President Donald Trump. Over the years, the home has attracted both admiration and criticism from people in the community.

Police arrested 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler, who faces a charge of attempted murder. Authorities said Butler fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody. He is being held at the Vista Detention Facility in San Diego County.

Investigators have not publicly confirmed a motive for the attack. While some people close to the situation have raised concerns about political hostility, others have pointed to possible mental health issues involving the suspect. A friend of Butler described him as struggling with serious personal challenges and said his behavior had become increasingly concerning in recent months.

The incident has drawn political attention, with Rep. Darrell Issa calling for a full investigation and raising concerns about violence against political supporters. However, officials have not established whether the attack was politically motivated.

For Sheron’s family, the focus remains on his recovery. The veteran’s home, once known primarily as a visible expression of patriotism and political support, has now become the scene of a serious act of violence that has sparked wider conversations about public safety, political tensions, and the consequences of escalating divisions.
