A shooting near the vice president’s motorcade in Washington, D.C., left a juvenile with non-life-threatening injuries and prompted a temporary lockdown at the White House, according to the U.S. Secret Service.
The incident occurred at the intersection of 15th Street and Independence Avenue shortly after the vice president had departed the area. Secret Service Deputy Director Mathew C. Quinn said personnel responded to an armed confrontation involving an individual and Secret Service Police.
During the encounter, a juvenile was injured and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. Officials said the victim’s injuries were not considered life-threatening. As a precaution, the White House was briefly placed under lockdown while law enforcement secured the scene and assessed any potential threat.
In a statement, the Secret Service said the incident stemmed from a confrontation between an armed individual and Secret Service Police. Authorities have not released further details about the circumstances leading to the shooting, and the investigation remains ongoing.
The incident follows another recent security concern in Washington, where 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen of Torrance, California, was charged after allegedly entering the Washington Hilton with multiple weapons while President Donald Trump attended the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. Prosecutors have described the case as an attempted assassination plot, adding that additional charges may be filed as the investigation continues.
