President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump concluded their second state visit to the United Kingdom this week, meeting with King Charles III and Prime Minister Keir Starmer before returning to Washington on Friday. The visit focused on strengthening economic ties, expanding investment, and enhancing cooperation on emerging technologies.
During the trip, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said Marine One experienced a hydraulic issue while transporting the president and first lady from Chequers to Stansted Airport. As a precaution, the pilots landed at a nearby airfield, where the couple safely transferred to a support helicopter. The diversion extended the flight from about 20 minutes to nearly 40 minutes.
At Windsor Castle, King Charles III and Queen Camilla hosted the Trumps before President Trump met with Prime Minister Starmer for discussions on trade, energy security, Ukraine, the conflict in Gaza, and free speech. The leaders also met with business executives to promote greater economic cooperation.
Starmer described the new agreement as a “tech-prosperity deal,” while Trump said it would create billions of dollars in investment opportunities and strengthen collaboration in artificial intelligence, quantum computing, fusion energy, advanced telecommunications, and civil nuclear power.
Trump also highlighted major private-sector investments, including a proposed partnership between X Energy and Centrica to develop modular nuclear reactors in the United Kingdom, a project expected to create thousands of jobs and support future energy needs.
