Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard has announced that she is stepping down from her position in the Trump administration, citing a serious family medical matter.
In a statement shared on X, Gabbard said she has decided to resign in order to support her husband, Abraham Gabbard, who was recently diagnosed with what she described as an “extremely rare form of bone cancer.” She explained that the coming months will require her full attention as he undergoes treatment and recovery.
Gabbard expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for the opportunity to serve as Director of National Intelligence. In her resignation letter, she wrote that she was “deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me and for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.”
She also noted that her husband’s diagnosis presents significant challenges for their family, making it necessary for her to step away from public service. “I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” she wrote.
According to the announcement, Gabbard informed President Trump of her decision before making it public. Her final day as Director of National Intelligence is scheduled to be June 30.
The resignation marks the end of her tenure leading the nation’s intelligence community and shifts the focus from public service to her family’s personal circumstances.
