White House Correspondents’ Dinner Canceled Following Security Incident

The annual White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, one of Washington’s most prominent political and media events, was abruptly canceled Saturday night after a serious security incident at the Washington Hilton.

According to law enforcement officials, a man identified as Cole Allen was apprehended in the hotel lobby after allegedly attempting to breach a security checkpoint. Authorities reported that Allen was armed with a shotgun and several knives. Photographs released after the incident showed the suspect being restrained by Secret Service agents.

Interim D.C. Police Chief Jeffrey Carroll said investigators believe Allen acted alone and that there was no continuing threat to the public. During the confrontation, a Secret Service agent was reportedly shot at close range. President Donald Trump later stated that the agent survived the incident because of a bulletproof vest and did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

President Trump praised law enforcement personnel for their swift response, saying their actions prevented the situation from escalating further. He also confirmed that authorities were searching the suspect’s California residence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Although organizers initially hoped to continue the event, officials announced its cancellation later in the evening. The dinner is expected to be rescheduled within the next month.

The incident has prompted an immediate review of security procedures for major political gatherings in the nation’s capital.
