Plane Crash Claims the Lives of Beloved Members of The Nelons
The Christian music community was left in mourning after a tragic plane crash in Wyoming on July 26, 2024, claimed the lives of several members of the renowned Southern gospel group The Nelons and others traveling with them.
According to authorities, the victims included Kelly Nelon Clark and Jason Clark, both longtime members of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame group, along with pilot Larry Haynie, his wife Melissa Haynie, family assistant Melodi Hodges, her daughter Amber Hodges Kistler, and Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler. The group was traveling aboard a single-engine turboprop aircraft when it crashed in a remote area near Recluse, Wyoming.
Autumn Nelon Streetman, the fourth member of The Nelons and the only surviving immediate family member, was not on the flight. In a heartfelt statement, she described her grief as “indescribable” and expressed gratitude for the prayers, love, and support shown by fans, friends, and the gospel music community during the difficult time.
The group had been traveling to the Gaither Homecoming Cruise in Alaska, where they were scheduled to perform alongside other leading gospel artists. For decades, The Nelons inspired audiences worldwide with their music, sharing messages of faith, hope, and redemption through their ministry.
Witnesses reported that the aircraft appeared to experience mechanical problems before crashing and catching fire. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but there were no survivors. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.
The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of tributes from fellow musicians, pastors, and fans, many remembering The Nelons not only for their musical talent but also for their unwavering faith and dedication to ministry.
