Bill Clinton Says He Is Recovering Well After Hospitalization for Sepsis
Former President Bill Clinton shared a reassuring update on his recovery Wednesday, saying he expects to continue serving others “for a lot longer” after being hospitalized last week with sepsis.
In a video posted to his official social media account, Clinton thanked supporters for their well wishes and expressed gratitude to the medical team at the University of California Irvine Medical Center for their care during his week-long hospital stay.
“I was so touched by the outpouring of support I received during my stay in the hospital. Thanks so much,” Clinton said. “I’d also like to thank the doctors and nurses at UC Irvine Medical Center for the absolutely wonderful care that they gave me over the last seven days.”
The former president added that he remains optimistic about the future.
“I, for one, am going to do my best to be around, to keep doing the most good I can, for a lot longer,” he said.
According to an aide, Clinton was treated for a urological infection that spread to his bloodstream, causing sepsis. The aide emphasized that he never developed septic shock, the most severe complication of the condition, and responded well to treatment.
Doctors reported that his fever had subsided and his white blood cell count had returned to normal. After being discharged, Clinton returned to his home in New York, where he will complete a prescribed course of antibiotics.
“I’m really glad to be back home. I’m doing great, enjoying this beautiful fall weather. I’m on the road to recovery,” Clinton said in the video.
He also encouraged others to prioritize their health by paying attention to early warning signs and seeking medical care when needed.
“Take the time to listen to your bodies and care for yourselves,” he said. “We all have work to do, and each of us has an important role to play in life and in the immediate future.”
Clinton’s message highlighted both his appreciation for the support he received and the importance of timely medical attention, as he continues his recovery with an optimistic outlook.
