FBI Reviews Cases Involving Scientists as Congressional Inquiry Continues

Federal authorities are reviewing a series of deaths and disappearances involving scientists connected to U.S. aerospace, defense, and energy programs after congressional lawmakers requested additional information about the cases. While the incidents have drawn growing attention, officials have not confirmed that the cases are related or that criminal activity links them.

The House Oversight Committee has asked several federal agencies to provide briefings regarding reports involving at least 11 researchers associated with organizations such as NASA and private aerospace companies, including SpaceX and Blue Origin. Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) and Rep. Eric Burlison (R-Mo.) sent requests to FBI Director Kash Patel, Energy Secretary Chris Wright, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman seeking information about the ongoing reviews.

In their letters, the lawmakers stated that, if the reported cases are connected, they could present a significant national security concern involving individuals with access to sensitive scientific research.

Chairman Comer said the committee intends to determine whether any common factors exist among the incidents, emphasizing that Congress is seeking answers rather than drawing conclusions before investigations are completed.

The White House has acknowledged the concerns. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration believes the reports warrant review if the information proves accurate. President Donald Trump also confirmed that the matter had been discussed during a recent meeting and said federal agencies were examining the available evidence.

FBI Director Kash Patel later confirmed that the bureau is coordinating with federal and local partners to determine whether any links exist between the cases, including possible connections involving classified information or foreign actors. He said investigators will pursue appropriate action if evidence of criminal conduct is discovered.

NASA has stated that it is cooperating fully with the investigation while noting that, based on information currently available, the agency has found no indication of an active national security threat related to its operations.

Federal investigators continue gathering information, and officials stress that the inquiry remains ongoing. At this stage, authorities have not established a common cause connecting the incidents, and they caution that conclusions should await the completion of the investigation.
