Tulsi Gabbard Announces Resignation as Director of National Intelligence
Tulsi Gabbard announced Friday that she will resign as Director of National Intelligence in President Donald Trump’s administration to care for her husband, Abraham Williams, who was recently diagnosed with an extremely rare form of bone cancer. Her resignation will take effect on June 30.
In a resignation letter shared on X, Gabbard expressed gratitude to President Trump for the opportunity to lead the Office of the Director of National Intelligence over the past year and a half. She explained that her husband’s condition will require extensive medical treatment and support in the months ahead, making it necessary for her to step away from public service.
“I must step away from public service to be by his side and fully support him through this battle,” Gabbard wrote, emphasizing that she could not continue in such a demanding position while her family faces this challenge.
A former U.S. representative from Hawaii, Gabbard was appointed to oversee the nation’s intelligence community during Trump’s administration. Her departure marks another senior leadership change within the administration, with her principal deputy expected to serve as acting Director of National Intelligence following her resignation.
