US military launches airstrikes on Iran after attack on cargo ship in Strait of Hormuz
– The US military (CENTCOM) has launched airstrikes on key Iranian military sites, including radar stations and missile/drone storage facilities along the coast and on Qeshm Island in response to attacks on civilian vessels.
The retaliation comes after the Singapore-flagged cargo ship M/V Ever Lovely was attacked by an Iranian suicide drone while sailing through the Strait of Hormuz. Although there was some damage to the ship’s deck, no one was injured.
President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance strongly condemned Iran’s actions as a “serious violation” of the interim ceasefire agreement (MOU) that the two sides signed last week and warned that any violence would be met with equal force.
In response, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps claimed that they had partially thwarted the US attack and vowed to retaliate. This incident has brought the situation in the vital oil shipping Strait of Hormuz back to a very confrontational state.
