5 MINUTE AGO : Multiple Casualties Reported After Shooting at Children’s Birthday Gathering

Deadly Stockton Birthday Party Shooting Leaves Community Seeking Answers and Healing

What began as a joyous second birthday celebration on November 29, 2025, at the Monkey Space event hall in Stockton, California, ended in tragedy when a mass shooting claimed four lives and injured 13 others, leaving the community devastated and searching for answers.

Shortly before 6 p.m., approximately 100 guests had gathered at the venue on Lucile Avenue to celebrate when multiple masked gunmen dressed in dark clothing allegedly opened fire. Investigators later recovered more than 50 shell casings from at least five different firearms, underscoring the scale and intensity of the attack.

Witnesses described scenes of panic and chaos as laughter quickly gave way to terror. Parents reportedly shielded children with their bodies while guests sought cover amid the gunfire. The attack transformed what should have been a family celebration into one of the deadliest acts of violence in Stockton’s recent history.

Among those killed were 8-year-old Maya Lupian, a third-grade student known for her passion for baking; 8-year-old Journey Rose Reotutar Guerrero, who had attended her cousin’s birthday party; 14-year-old Amari Peterson, a student-athlete from Modesto; and 21-year-old Susano Archuleta, who witnesses said sacrificed himself while attempting to protect others.

The 13 surviving victims were transported to area hospitals, which activated mass-casualty protocols in response to the sudden influx of patients. While some sustained minor injuries, others suffered critical wounds requiring extensive medical treatment and ongoing rehabilitation.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office, working alongside the Stockton Police Department, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), continues to investigate the shooting. Authorities believe the attack was targeted, although an exact motive has not been publicly confirmed.

Investigators announced a significant development in January 2026 with the identification and recovery of two vehicles believed to be connected to the case—a white Honda Accord and a gray Volkswagen. As of April 2026, no murder charges had been filed, but Sheriff Patrick Withrow stated that advances in forensic and digital evidence analysis could lead to charges in the near future.

The tragedy has deeply affected the Stockton community, prompting renewed discussions about gun violence, public safety, and trauma recovery. Counseling services, vigils, and community fundraisers continue to support victims and their families as residents seek healing and justice.
